The WTFBA hosts special events such as poker runs, raffles, and auctions to raise money for the Crossroads Hospice “Gift of a Day” program.
Crossroads Hospice is a local organization that provides comfort care to the terminally ill in our community. Crossroads has patients in Shelby, Fayette, and Tipton counties. Crossroads philosophy regarding care is to provide the highest level of quality of life possible for their patients.
Crossroads develops unique plans of care for each patient that includes programs like “Gift of a Day”. That day is based on the question: “If you only had one day to live, what would it look like?” Staff members, volunteers and local businesses work together to bring the Gifts to life. Some recent gifts include: A local Judge doing an Elvis impersonation for a 93 year old Hospice patient. She got up and danced a jig! A photographer getting together a family with 17 children to have family portraits taken before dad died…and to have food and a reunion while they were at it! A 62 year alumnus of the University of Memphis, who had been a season ticket holder for over 40 years, was invited to be a guest at the University’s 100th anniversary basketball game. He was treated as a celebrity and met several players, The University President, the mascot, and the coach.
Crossroads Hospice completes about 25 of these gifts each month in Memphis.
